Palazzo PodestaWe may be used to several festivals and meetings celebrating Italy in the UK, but how about festivals in Italy celebrating the UK. Well the city of Ripatransone in Le Marche holds just such a festival.

IL FESTIVAL DI LONDRA is sponsored privately and by the Comune of la Citta di Ripatransone, an ancient and charming medieval illtown in Le Marche, that at nearly 500 metres, and 12 kilometres from the Adriatic coast, is the highest hilltown nearest the sea in all Italy, and commands magnificent views of the Monti Sibellini as well as of the Adriatic.

Panorama

Many of the numerous hilltowns of Le Marche boast breathtaking examples of early 19th century theatres, and Ripatransone is justly proud of its 1823 beautifully restored Teatro Mercantini, with 3 tiers of frescoed boxes and 252 seats, and superb acoustics.

The inaugural "IL FESTIVAL DI LONDRA" in July 2004 started small, and was a great success. The artists, as the name suggests, are largely drawn from talent based in London. This year we have expanded the presentation with the outstanding Action/Comedy Duo "Full House", Martin Feinstein, UK's leading baroque flautist, and the Georgia Mancio jazz quintet, who are well known on the London jazz circuit.

This year the Festival opens on Wednesday 27 July with the outstanding action/comedy Duo "FULL HOUSE", followed on Friday July 29 by exciting jazz vocalist Georgia Mancio and her quintet, well known on the London's jazz circuit.

The Festival runs alongside the region's annual Festa del Vino, which has its final celebrations on Saturday 30th July in the main Piazza.
