The iconic Made in Italy label has long been an unofficial stamp of quality, celebrating Italian design and craftsmanship. In 2012, a new museum will pay homage to the legacy of all things Italian-made, with the opening of a permanent Made in Italy exhibition.
The new museum will be located in the EUR area, a southern suburb of Rome. The exhibition will be housed in Civiltà del Lavoro Palace, EUR’s most easily recognized building. The Civiltà del Lavoro Palace was commissioned by Mussolini in 1938, quickly becoming a symbol of fascism. But a 30 million Euro makeover will ensure that the legendary structure has a new modern feel.
The huge investment is part of the Ministry of Culture’s plan to draw more tourists to Rome. Those who have already explored the ruins in the historic centre might be tempted back to view the 4-floor ‘Made in Italy’ museum. The redone Civiltà del Lavoro Palace will also include a state of the art audiovisual centre. EUR also hopes to open a Mediterranean aquarium in 2012, located across from the new museum, under the town’s artificial lake.
