Following Dolce & Gabbana's successful Spring/Summer Collection campaign featuring Madonna, the star is now the face of their advertising campaign for Autumn 2010 / Winter 2011.
Once again the star plays an elegant Italian housewife and this time she has a teenage son. She is pictured walking arm in arm with her “son”, who is carrying the shopping, holding a live chicken, eating Sunday lunch and having her clothes stitched by her grandmother.
The black and white photographs were taken by Steven Klein and were shot in Harlem and Milan. The photos were inspired by Madonna's idol, Italian actress Anna Magnani in Pier Paolo Pasolini's 1962 film, “Mamma Roma”. In the film Magnani plays a former prostitute who is trying to start a new life with her 16-year-old son. Pasolini commented that Magnani as an actor maintained her independence from his own artistic visions and perhaps it was this quality which attracted Madonna.
Stefano Gabbano told “Stylelist”,
“We love the 'domestic' version of Madonna. It conveys the idea of a real and very human woman. With her and Steven Klein, we are now a team, and there is great understanding. Any time we work together, we share ideas. Madonna also actively participates in the decision-making process.”
