As Nelson Mandela is laid to rest in his home village of Qunu in South Africa, many people around the world are paying him tribute.
In Naples, two local artisans put up a little statue of the former South African president in the Nativity Scenes (presepe) on display in the windows of their ateliers.
In one case, Mandela appears next to other statues of important personalities such as scientist Rita Levi Montalcini and Pope Francis, artists like Lucio Dalla and Luciano Pavarotti, and royal couple William and Kate.
In the second case, the figure of Mandela is placed next to the other traditional figures of a presepe napoletano, portrayed smiling because, as its creator said, “he always had a smile on his face.”
