Milan 'still dream'

AC Milan haven't given up on the scudetto even though they're seven points behind leaders Inter Milan with five games left.

''We can still dream,'' club owner Silvio Berlusconi said ahead of Sunday's match at 14th-placed Catania.

Midfielder Massimo Ambrosini said he was hoping Inter coach Jose' Mourinho would regret saying Milan wouldn't win anything this season.

Mourinho made the remark when Milan were well off the title pace but they've pulled back seven points in the last three games.

''At the time, it was hard to see us pulling off the scudetto,'' admitted Ambrosini, but added: ''I'd still like to think that, in a few weeks, Mourinho may regret talking about 'zero titles' for us this year''.

The midfielder, who will be 32 next month, acknowledged talk of snatching the title was ''a crazy dream'' but said ''we've got to go for it''.

Milan dropped to 11 points behind Inter after losing February's derby to a controversial 'handball' goal from Adriano, who has just left the club because of personal problems.

Berlusconi said that ''things could have been very different'' if the goal had been disallowed.

But CEO Adriano Galliani was less optimistic Thursday, saying Inter were bound to notch ''at least eight points'' in their remaining matches.

However, Inter showed signs of nerves in losing only their third game of the season at Napoli last week and will have to be composed at home to 9th-placed Lazio Saturday night.

Mourinho on Thursday scoffed at suggestions Inter could blow the title as it did on May 5, 2002 with a famous upset defeat to Lazio at the Olimpico - a date that still haunts fans.

''All this talk of May 5 phobia doesn't mean anything to me. What is this May 5? I will remember the day when we win the scudetto,'' said the Portuguese coach, who is seeking to continue Roberto Mancini's three-title stint.

Providing faint hope for Milan are not just memories of 2002 but also last year's stuttering run-in when Roma chipped an 11-point lead down to just one on the last day, when Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic saved Mancini's blushes.

Brazil defender Maicon is injured for the Lazio game while Serb midfielder Dejan Stankovic and Italo-Ghanaian striker Mario Balotelli are suspended.

For Milan, Kaka is back on song after injury niggles, David Beckham has returned to his best form and veteran goalpoacher Pippo Inzaghi is eager to continue his bid to catch Roberto Baggio as Serie A's top modern-day striker.

Third-placed Juventus are expected to know late Thursday if they have to play 19th-placed Lecce behind closed doors after Balotelli suffered racist taunts in the recent 1-1 draw in Turin.

Juve have appealed for a second time against the penalty, arguing that they have been unfairly singled out.

Fourth-placed Fiorentina, who smashed Roma 4-1 last time out, host 17th-placed Torino Sunday while 5th-placed Genoa meet 13th-placed Sampdoria in the Genoa derby.
