If you are visiting or passing through Pisa, you may like to visit a new exhibition of paintings by the Catalan artist Joan Mirò at the Palazzo Blu until 23rd January. The exhibition has been organised jointly by the Pisa Cassa di Risparmio Foundation and the Joan Mirò Foundation in Barcelona.
The exhibition , “Joan Mirò. I miti del Mediterraneo” is a retrospective of 110 of the artist’s paintings, drawings, lithographs and sculptures . Like Picasso, Mirò was much disturbed and affected by the Spanish Civil War and the exhibition includes a series of prints featuring women at war. After World War 11, Mirò explored the Mediterranean via its relationship with classical mythology and poetry. “Constellazioni”, a series of 22 panels, each accompanied by a poem by the surrealist poet André Breton, is also on display.
Joan Mirò. I miti del Mediterraneo is at the Palazzo Blu, Pisa until 23rd January.
