The fully restored Museo del Novecento [Museum of Twentieth Century Art] will be inaugurated in Milan on 18th November.
Housed in the Palazzo Arengario in Piazza del Duomo, the Museum, designed by the architect Italo Rota, has a large spiral ramp as its main internal architectural feature. This will connect all levels of the tower.
The 3,500 square metres of exhibition space will be home to works by Picasso, Braque, Klee, Modigliani, Fontana, Marinetti and other prominent twentieth century artists spanning the period from the beginning of the century to the 1960s. The 400 paintings and statues will be displayed in chronological order and many have been donated from private collections.
There will be a library for students of futurism and “arte povera”, a film library, a workshop for children, a bookshop and an excellent restaurant from which visitors will be able to see Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo’s 1901 painting, “Il Quarto Stato”.
