In 2014, Nutella celebrates its 50th birthday. To celebrate this milestone, Ferrero, the company that makes Nutella, has asked fans to share their most memorable moments that involve the beloved hazelnut spread. Mornings gathered around the breakfast table, birthdays with friends, special events, children with Nutella stains all over their bodies…people have already started sending in pictures and their stories, which can be shared on www.nutellastories.com.
Nutella was born on April 20, 1964. Soon, the Italian Postal Service will issue a special stamp to pay homage to Nutella, as it has already done this year for other important anniversaries, namely those relating to Michelangelo, Galileo, Roman emperor Augustus and Italian politician Enrico Berlinguer.
The creator of Nutella was Michele Ferrero, son of Pietro, the company’s founder, who developed the secret recipe and came up with the catchy name by joining the English word for hazelnut and abbreviating it in “nut” with the Latin suffix “ella.”
