Palazzo in Pavia

In the heart of this medieval town a Liberty-style palazzo recreates the atmosphere of the early 20th century.

Pavia is a lively town in the north of Italy, known above all for its universities and hospitals, and also for the elegance of its ancient buildings.

The house described in this post embodies the spirit of this town. A three - storey building dating back to 1905, it is a typical example of Liberty architecture that Stefano Zacconi, an artist living in Pavia, has made his home.

When he bought it, the house was in very bad condition but the original magnificence and several decorative elements had survived intact. The restoration aimed to completely reconstruct the original building; the stuccoed ceilings, the wooden double doors and the gray stone floors have been restored.

Such austere architecture is enhanced by priceless antique furniture with pieces that evoke all the charm of a typical early 20th-century building.
