Pellizotti eyes tour stage win

Italian climber Franco Pellizotti says he fancies his chances of winning at least one stage in this year's Tour de France.

''I'm strong and I think I have a good chance in the mountain stages,'' said the 31-year-old, who came third in the Giro d'Italia on May 31.

''I even think I could end up with the King of the Mountains prize'' in the July 4-26 event.

Pellizotti is one of the few top Italians at the Tour, where America's Lance Armstrong, 37, is bidding for his eighth win after three years in retirement.

Giro winner Denis Menchov is among the challengers along with last year's Tour winner Carlos Sastre, 2007 winner Alberto Contador and Australia's Cadel Evans, runner-up in the last two years.

The latest odds give Contador the edge over Armstrong, who finished 12th in the Giro, calling it ''a promising result''.
