Gianni Petrucci was confirmed as Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) chief for the fourth time running in a ballot of CONI members Wednesday.
Petrucci, 63, beat three-time Italian Golf Federation chief Franco Chimenti, 70, at the first ballot.
Petrucci, who has had posts in Italian basketball and soccer, has led CONI since 1999.
He has vowed to boost funding, up the fight on doping and help sport in schools, where Italy lags other nations.
CONI oversees all Italian sports.
Some observers think CONI may be consulted on Serie A soccer's plans to form a premier league.
