Best known for successes like Toy Story, Up and Finding Nemo, American animation studio Pixar has announced plans to set their next film in Florence.
Pixar Creative Director John Lasseter fell in love with the Italian city after a holiday in Tuscany. Lasseter will frame his latest animated feature with Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria as backdrops.
With film tourism on the rise, Florence could soon take its place among the hills of New Zealand popularized by The Lord of the Rings, or the Greek island of Skopelos made famous by Mamma Mia.
Lasseter has already met with Mayor Renzi to discuss collaborating in order to produce the film, but no word yet on the plot of the story that will be set in Florence.
