October is National Pizza Month in the U.S.; to celebrate, an Italian restaurant in Pasadena (Calif.), Trattoria Neapolis, is offering its clients a pizza-inspired cocktail.
The drink is called Sapore di Napoli, Flavor of Naples, in honor of the birthplace of pizza.
The ingredients of this alcoholic shake are: tomato juice, tomato water, house basil infused vodka, balsamic vinegar, house ghost pepper infused vodka, roasted garlic, fresh basil and porcini mushroom powder. The concoction is garnished with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese foam. It is sold at $13.
The restaurant claims that “it tastes delicious and remarkably like a pizza (if a pizza were a cocktail).”
A similar experiment has been tried in the past by two Italians pizzaioli, Valerio Valle and Bigio Saccomandi, who presented a “liquid pizza” non-alcoholic shake, prepared with pizza ingredients, and devised for happy hour.
We would be game to try it. Would you?
