Possible new case in Italy

Tests are currently being carried out to verify whether Italy has its 11th confirmed case of the new H1N1 flu.

The patient is currently in Rome's Gemelli Hospital and is said to be a young woman.

On Wednesday Italy's 10th case of the new flu, also known as Influenza A and Swine Flu, was confirmed by health officials in the northeast Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.

The case was that of a 21-year-old woman from the region who had returned from a visit to San Francisco two weeks ago but did not show any flu symptoms until last Sunday.

The latest data from the World Health organization showed that there are now 11,034 confirmed cases of the new fly in 41 countries and that the death toll has risen to 84.

All the fatalities have been in North and Central America with 75 in Mexico, where the outbreak began, eight in the United States and one each in Canada and Costa Rica.

The US has the highest number of confirmed cases, 5,710, followed by Mexico with 3,892 and japan with 259.

In Europe there are 109 cases in Britain, 16 in France and 14 in Germany.

Compared to Wednesday, there were 281 new cases confirmed in the US, 244 in Mexico, 223 in Canada and 49 in Japan.
