Beer (ANSA) - Mondovi, July 8 - In this northwest region better known for its excellent Barolo and Barbaresco wines, the residents here in this hilltop town have decided to dedicate a day to drinking beer.

The first Gir dla Bira, day of beer in the local dialect, will be held on Sunday, July 10, and revive a tradition popular at the turn of the 20th century.

Back then, residents would drink beer, talk about anything and everything and take long walks along the Ermena River, where the old Levrone family brewery used to quench the thirst of town residents starting in the 1800s.

The new celebration will see a costume demonstration of the old beer-making techniques and there will plenty of music to accompany the drinking. Local food specialties will also be available and there
will be an open dog show and exhibition. The day will end with a concert in the town's central square featuring folk, blues and gospel music along with traditional dancing exhibitions.
