Queen Rania of Jordan, who is accompanying her husband King Abdullah 11 on a State Visit to Italy, must be the most popular person in the country at the moment. I just did a twitter search and found thousands of messages from Italians along the lines of, “Rania, we love you” or “Thank you, Queen Rania, for making Rome more beautiful”. And who can blame them, after the Queen’s positive “tweets” about the capital?
“Admiring Rome’s restraint and reluctance to relinquish too much of itself for the sake of modern conveniences”,
wrote the Queen at 08.49 today, following this up with,
“It has left her a creature of unique beauty AND personality. Timeless and oh so romantic.”
Then at 16.47 comes this:
“If your aesthetic needs are not totally satiated by Rome, then you need to check if you have a pulse.”
Later still, she proves that she has a sense of humour and is impressed by Italian food just like the rest of us:
“A fun lunch at Bolognese. Even on State visits, you gotta eat, right? Well, eat we did! A must for any Rome visitor. A culinary feast.”
King Abdullah is to hold talks with Mr Berlusconi and will attend the Jordanian-Italian Business Forum in Milan. The Queen is to launch the Jordanian Tourist Board’s “Giordania Svelata” [Jordan Unveiled] Week [22 – 30 October] in Milan. Images of Jordan’s treasures will be on sale at the Via Dante 14 Gallery and the proceeds are to go to the Jordan River Foundation’s charity projects. A 300-meter street exhibition will be held on Via Dante itself and a third exhibition will be held in the street linking Via Dante to the Galleria dei Meravigli. There will be a spa area and a restaurant will be serving food prepared by Jordanian chefs. In addition, there will be video screenings of Jordan’s attractions in Piazza Duomo and all metro stations.
“Officialdom this morning. The Italians do it so well”, tweets the Queen at 19.05. Thank you, Queen Rania, for cheering Italy up!
