Respected restaurant guide Zagat has cited two restaurants in Italy in its list of ‘10 Spectacular Spots for Outdoor Dining Around the World’. Zagat lists the Al Saraceno restaurant in Taormina, Sicily, saying: “This Sicilian stunner is located along the road to Taormina, at the foot of the impressive Saraceno Castle, a fortification built by the Arabs in the Middle Ages. Built into the side of a mountain, it offers impressive views of Giardini Naxos Bay, which perfectly complement a menu laden with Italian and Mediterranean specialties like pizza cooked in a wood-burning oven, homemade pastas and lamb cooked in Sicilian Nero d’Avola wine.” The second panoramic restaurant in Italy to gain a mention is Carlino at Il San Pietro De Positano hotel in Positano on the Amalfi Coast. Zagat says: “The breathtaking views at this restaurant built into the side of a mountain showcase the Amalfi Coast and the city of Positano. Be sure to request a table at the edge of the terrace to get the full effect. Because of the position of the terrace, it’s a particularly romantic place to watch a sunset, so reserve a table to arrive before dusk and watch the transformation. The menu offers a modern interpretation of Neapolitan cuisine, which pairs perfectly with the delicious sights.”
