Since antiquity, Italy has been the home of artistic treasures. Now an exhibit at the Uffizi is bringing some of the rarest pieces of artwork back to public display.
80 reconditioned artworks are being presented in Restituzioni 2011, Restored Art Treasures. The artistic treasures cover a range of periods and styles, from ancient times to the Neoclassical period.
The pieces, which are from both Northern and Southern Italy, were restored over a two-year period from 2009 to 2010.
The campaign to preserve parts of Italy’s artistic heritage has resulted in the restoration of such works as a terracotta Medici frieze and the Neaopolitan Baroque Saint Michael Archangel.
Restituzioni 2011 runs until 5 June 2011. Entrance is included with the purchase of ticket to the Palatine Gallery and the Museum of Modern Art.
