(ANSA) - Fiumicino - A new passport scanning device will soon reduce lines of departing and arriving passengers at Leonardo Da Vinci airport here, airport authorities announced on Wednesday.
The electronic optical scanner, Sunrai, was developed by Sun Microsystem and is set to go into operation on July 15.
"The advantages of the new system will be numerous. Border police will be able to work quicker, lines will be shorter, security greater and there will be less stress for both staff and passengers," airport officials explained.
The new system will later be installed, on an experimental basis, at check-in counters to verify the authenticity of passports.
