Considered one of the greatest artists of 18th century Europe and the first master of the Grand Manner movement, Venetian painter Giambattista Tiepolo is being celebrated in an exhibition at Rome’s Capitoline Museums.
"Tiepolo: I colori del disegno" ("Tiepolo: Sketch Colors") features more than 90 paintings, etchings and designs on loan from collections in Trieste, Florence and Venice and from across Europe; it includes pieces seldom seen and little known to the general public.
Divided into four sections, the exhibition covers a range of periods in the career of Tiepolo (1696 to 1770), and includes such famous works as The Temptation of St. Anthony Abate, from Brera's Pinacoteca, the Flight into Egypt from Lisbon, and the Adoration of the Magi from Munich.
