The search for Mona Lisa’s remains have yielded a promising find. Experts have uncovered a skeleton in the Florence convent where the model for Da Vinci’s masterpiece may be buried.
Researchers have been digging for the remains of Lisa Gherardini Del Giocondo, who many believe is the secretive woman depicted in the Mona Lisa.
The archaeology team has faced many challenges in the exhumation as humidity has compromised the strength of the skeleton, which has partially collapsed.
Numerous tests will now be ordered for the delicate skeleton to validate the age and heritage of the remains.
The aim of the expedition is to uncover Gherardini’s skull in order to compare a reconstruction of her facial features with those of the painted Mona Lisa.
