In conjunction with the International Tourism Exchange in Milan, an important travel fair held in Milan recently, Trivago, one of the biggest search engines for hotels, developed a ranking of the cities with the best reputation in the world when it comes to accommodation and quality stays.
Web reputation, after all, has become essential in the world of tourism 2.0. Reviews, ratings, comments, opinions, forums, tips: the myriad of opinions expressed on the web help determine the success or flop of a location, especially when it comes to small and medium-sized places.
And the winner of the Trivago ranking is Italian, precisely Sorrento, on the Amalfi Coast, which got a score of 84.7 out of 100. The online reputation index was calculated on a base of 82 million written reviews from more than 200 online booking sites, taking into account cities with at least 130 accommodation structures, and at least 60 reviews per hotel.
In addition to Sorrento, Verona ranked 15th, while Venice was 21st, and Florence 26th. Rome and Milan took respectively 60th and 82nd places, surpassing rivals like Paris and London. In the top 100 are also Palermo at 45th and Naples at 54th.
