Italian police went on a sweet sting in the days before Easter, seizing 19 tons of chocolate and candy. The confiscated sweets were worth over 500,000 Euro.
The expensive chocolate bust came after official inspections found poor hygienic conditions in many bakeries and sweet factories.
Other offenses included the labeling of goods as ‘Made by Hand’ when they were commercially produced, and the selling of candy past its expiration date.
In Turin, police raided a basement and discovered two ton of Easter chocolates covered in dust, mold and insects.
The contaminated chocolates were destroyed before making their ways into any Easter baskets. Police will be pursuing legal action against 32 manufacturers.
