All the world loves a romantic movie and Italy Magazine especially loves a romantic movie set in Italy. In a new series, we look at romantic movies old and new which are set in the most romantic of lands….
Kicking off [we can’t get football out of our minds today] is “Eat, Pray, Love”, a film based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling 2006 memoir, “Eat, Pray, Love: One woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia”.
Here Elizabeth Gilbert talks about the book:
Gilbert, at 32, seemed to have everything: a nice home, a successful career as a writer and a happy marriage. But the marriage was not happy and, after her divorce, Gilbert sets out on a voyage of discovery to Italy, where she learns about the healing power of food [“Eat”] to India, where she finds spirituality [“Pray”] and Indonesia, where she finds love.
You may have to suspend your disbelief a little, as the film stars Julia Roberts, who doesn’t look as if she ever eats a thing, but if you can do this, stock up with Kleenex, sit back and enjoy!
“Eat Pray Love” is directed by Ryan Murphy and opens in US cinemas on 13th August, in the UK on 24th September and in Italy on 24th October.
