Italian soccer's traditional seasonal curtain-raiser, the Super Cup, will be played at Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium on August 8, Lazio and Inter Milan representatives said here Tuesday.
The Super Cup is played by the winners of the Serie A title and the Italian Cup.
Inter ran away with the scudetto last season while Lazio beat Sampdoria in the Italian Cup Final.
The match will be played on August 8, exactly a year after the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
The idea to hold the Super Cup in Beijing came from the Chinese authorities.
Inter, Lazio and other Serie A teams have strong followings in China and Chinese state TV broadcasts at least two games live every weekend.
The Super Cup Final will round off a week of overseas football including a friendly tournament between Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Hull City and local side Guoan.
The Bird's Nest is the fourth overseas venue for the Super Cup after Washington (1993), Tripoli (2002) and New York (2003).
