Ten buildings in Pompeii have reopened to the public as of August 4; they include eight houses, a thermal facility, and an inn. They had been closed due to a lack of attendants. Now, thirty new employees have been hired.
Among the buildings that have reopened, the most significant include the Thermal Baths, located near Porta Marina, one of the first places visitors find upon entering the site. It is a spa facility that was privately owned, with a sea view. On the ground floor is the thermal area, with a calidarium and frigidarium, and a fake cave adorned with mosaics and cupids. In the locker room, there are sixteen panels with depictions of erotic scenes, including one portraying two women, which is unique in Roman painting. Also significant is the House of Apollo, with frescoes depicting scenes from the god's mythology, and the Lararium of Achilles, which takes its name from the paintings showing the latest episodes of the Trojan War, such as the duel between Achilles and Hector.
The 30 new employees welcome visitors and provide historical, artistic and archaeological information about the buildings, including in English. They also oversee the archaeological heritage and ensure compliance with site rules and safety regulations.
