As of 14.00 GMT a total of 11 Italians were tested for possible infection by the AH1N1 flu virus but all results were negative, Welfare Minister Maurizio Sacconi said Tuesday afternoon.

The minister said the tests were all on people who had recently visited Mexico, where the new flu outbreak began and over 150 people have died.

Cases of the new flu have been reported around the world but there have been no fatalities outside Mexico.

As a precautionary measure, the welfare ministry has ordered stock piles of flu vaccine powder to be packaged into individual doses, sufficient for some four million people.
