Wine industry leader Decanter Magazine has included two Tuscans on its influential Power List Top 50.
One Italian on the list was Piero Antinori, whose family has been making wine for 600 years. The other Tuscan honoured by Decanter was Lorenzo Bencistà Falorni, the inventor of an ingenious wine serving system known as the Enomatic.
The high-tech Enomatic allows rare and expensive bottles of wine to be sold by the glass to consumers who are often interested in trying a bit of premier wine that would normally be outside of their price range when sold by the bottle.
The Enomatic draws wine directly into the glass, while keeping the semi-sealed bottle at the correct temperature. The wine left in the bottle maintains its quality and characteristics for up to a month, allowing it to be shared by different oenophiles at various times.
The system, which Lorenzo Bencistà Falorni developed in 2002, is now used in over 70 countries around the world.
