Two newcomers against Australia

Italy coach Nick Mallett has decided to start two uncapped players against Australia in Canberra on Saturday.

Bayonne fly half Craig Gower, 32, former captain of the Australian rugby league national team the Kangaroos, gets his first start at fly half.

Naturalised South African Quintin Geldenhuys of MPS Viadana will start in the second row alongside veteran Carlo Del Fava.

Luke McLean plays as full back for the first time after being used as fly half during the Six Nations.

Italy are playing two tests against Australia and one against New Zealand as Mallett seeks to build a new team following Italy's worst Six nations ever.

Italy's last display against Australia in Padua, before the Six Nations, was encouraging.

They led until ten minutes from time only to lose 20-30.

Italy: McLean, Robertson, Mirco Bergamasco, Pratichetti, Sgarbi, Gower, Canavosio, Parisse, Mauro Bergamasco, Zanni, Del Fava, Geldenhuys, Staibano, Ghiraldini, Perugini.

(Replacements: Sbaraglini, Rouyet, Bortolami, Derbyshire, Tebaldi, Burton, Garcia).
