For Christmas this year, the Uffizi Gallery, Italy’s most renowned art gallery, offers art lovers a virtual journey through the history of art. Called “Nella luce degli angeli” (In the light of angels), the exhibition, available for all to see on the Uffizi’s website, wants to inspire kindness and peace.
The high-definition reproductions of the 12 selected works of art include masterpieces by Giotto, Beato Angelico, Botticelli, Leonardo, Verrocchio and Rosso Fiorentino, among others. By clicking on each image, viewers may zoom in on the details. A caption to the side provides an explanation of the painting.
The choice of subject, one of the most depicted in art in any period of time, aims to “instill an idea of closeness between human and divine,” says Eike Schmidt, director of the Uffizi.
