As Venice Closes, Milan Film Festival Kicks Off

As the Venice Film Festival prepares for the final screenings and award presentations, the 16th edition of the Milan Film Festival is readying its opening ceremonies.

The Milan Film Festival, which runs from the 9th of September to the 18th of September 2011, is experiencing a rather important turning point after 15 years. The organization of the event and the film selections have been entrusted to two new young curators: Alessandro Beretta and Vincenzo Rossini.

The duo is expected to inject a breath of fresh air into the event, screening feature films, shorts, documentaries, and animated films. In addition to movie screenings, there will be DJ sets, concerts, a section devoted to children and various gastronomic experiences.

In all, 5 feature films and 55 shorts that will be presented in competition. The competition opens with a screening of the drama Braden King, already awarded in Berlin. A highly anticipated Italian film in competition is Italy, Love it, or Leave it by Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi on the phenomena of educated young people leaving Italy known as "brain drain".

The competition and the screenings will be held at numerous venues around Milan, from the historic Teatro Strehler to outside in the open air at Parco Sempione.
