A virtual plot of vegetables

Italians in more rural areas generally have a close relationship with land. Many either own and take care of land or know people who have access to fresh fruit and vegetables directly from the fields.

Those, however, that live in the bigger cities like Rome and Milano are finding it increasingly harder to maintain their links. Well, now they can adopt their own garden patch online.

Through the website of leverduredelmioorto.it - (the vegetables of my garden) - you can design your patch of land online. From tomatoes to aubergines, lettuce, carrots, rucola and zucchini you decide based on seasonal availability.

Thirty square meters of this virtually controlled vegetable patch will set you back 1175 euro for a full year but should produce enough to mean that you will make none or very few visits to the supermarket for vegetables. This in addition to having fresh organic vegetables delivered direct.

The service currently only covers Lombardy and Piedmont but there are plans for expanding to the rest of Italy.
