Easter, Pasqua, is a great time to visit Italy and it is coming up on Sunday, April 21st. It is a very important religious event in Italy, and Easter week, La settimana santa, is celebrated with processions, religious festivals and lots of delicious food.
Easter Sunday in Italy is a national holiday, as well as Easter Monday, which is known as Little Easter or Pasquetta in Italian. It is traditionally a day for enjoying the spring weather with friends and family, such as having a picnic or eating at a friend’s or relative’s home.
There is a saying in Italian:
Natale con i tuoi, Pasqua con chi vuoi
In English, literally this means Christmas with your family, Easter with whoever you would like, or that a person should spend spend Christmas with their family, but is free to spend Easter with whoever they would like.
Buona Pasqua!
