Holy Week began yesterday, ending with Easter this Sunday, so we thought our Word of the Week would be pace, peace.
The dove – colomba – has become a symbol of peace, and the typical Easter dessert in Italy is la colomba pasquale or colomba di Pasqua.
Pace in Italian can also be used with the meaning of calm, tranquility, as in Amo la pace della campagna, I love the peace and quiet of the countryside.
