many books advise using only a member of a professional estate agents organisation such as FIMAA or FIAIP. However, lately there have been some unwelcome developments. FIMAA and FIAIP are not interchangeable. FIMAA works as an association for agents - both immobiliare and creditizie,: you pay your fee and you join. it works on a collegiate system, so the right hand doesnt really know what the left hand is doing. Here in Sicily there are instances of FIMAA accepting as associates unqualified estate agents - so it is no longer absolutely true to say that FIMAA is an association of professionals.
FIAIP on the other hand has a more rigorous entry system - you must be nominated and seconded by other FIAIP members and are vetted before you are invited to join. This guarantees the association having only registered and legally operating agents. It has a strict code of conduct and obligatory indemnity insurance.
