Italian fashion is set to add sweet-smelling cloth to its allure.
A firm based near Lake Como on Monday said it would unveil the world's first range of scented fabrics for shirts and blouses at next February's textile shows in Milan and Paris.
"We aim to mingle sight with smell, appealing to both senses," said Matteo Taiana of the Tessitura Taiana company.
He said the fabrics would be impregnated with natural essences, fruit extracts and herbal solutions.
"The effect will last up to twenty washings," said Taiana, whose family firm has been weaving cloth since 1933.
"After that, the smell will fade - but the style will remain".
Taiana is the second Italian company to try the smell-style combination.
In May the Supercolor dye company from Italy's textiles hub Prato said it had fashioned fabrics that smell of strawberry, lemon and other fruit.
The wearer can choose a permanent fragrance - proof against multiple washes - or decide to unleash the scent by rubbing the cloth.
Fresh from patenting its Texaroma system, Supercolor said it had already scented scarves, shawls and blankets and had jeans and other more intimate items in mind.
Supercolor chief Roberta Ciapini said many clothing firms in Italy and abroad had expressed interest in the new fabric.
