James Bond is headed to Rome next year!
The next 007 film, the 24th in the series, will be partly set in Rome, with historic locations used for the secret agent’s spectacular endeavors: for example, the 15th century Ponte Sisto, which connects the Campo de' Fiori neighborhood with Trastevere, will be used as the landing site after a parachute launch from a helicopter. Bond, played for the fourth time by Daniel Craig, will also be seen racing down Borgo Vittorio near the Vatican, then on to Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, and alongside the Tiber river. Other stunts include a car plunge into the Tiber and a Fiat 500 crash near the Vatican.
Filming in Rome is scheduled from February 19 to March 12 of next year. Following the success of the previous Bond movie, Skyfall, which became the seventh highest grossing film of all time and the highest grossing film in the Bond series, director Sam Mendes will be at the helm again. The filmmaker will be using offices at the famous Cinecittà Studios.
The film, as yet untitled, is due for release next fall.
This is not the first time Bond heads to Italy. The recent Quantum of Solace (2008) featured a series of chases in the medieval center of Siena. Even more interestingly, Bond movies are the result of an Anglo-American-Italian production collaboration. You can read all about it here.
