I am planning to travel to Italy next

I am planning to travel to Italy next year and researching home-stay opportunities. Last visit to Italy was in 2012 and fell in love with the language and culture. Has anyone in this group experienced or know anyone who stayed with an Italian family as a guest via a home stay?
Goal is to seek career opportunity in italy. I am a middle-aged American nurse ready for a change.
FYI - I do not currently speak Italian so considering registering for a language immersion course versus a home-stay as a way to learn language and culture.
