Ed.: The Inspired Stays series highlights hotels we love around Italy. Each property is independently reviewed by an Italy Magazine writer, who is generally hosted on a complimentary basis. Our contributors do not accept compensation or gifts in exchange for specific types of coverage. We only showcase properties we would genuinely recommend overall.
Why we love it
This boutique hotel a few steps from the Trevi Fountain offers one of the few examples of Art Deco architecture in downtown Rome. The glamorous yet cozy atmosphere is complemented by a cheery, attentive staff and family-oriented rooms.
What to expect
A haven of comfortable luxury in the heart of Rome, the Singer Palace is high-end but with a cozy feel. Couples will feel pampered and families will feel unstressed and cared for. The female-run boutique hotel is decked with colorful flair against original Art Deco design: geometric door handles, a dark wood entryway and a stunning marble staircase. The staff are like tour guides, escorting you through all the city has to offer.
Background
Built in 1930 as the Rome headquarters of the Singer Corporation, of sewing machine fame, the host building was renovated in 2012 and the hotel opened in 2018, preserving the Art Deco design. Antique sewing machines are on display in the entryway and the facade features gorgeous bas-reliefs. Don’t forget to look up!
Location, location, location
Just off Rome’s long shopping street, Via del Corso, it doesn’t get much more central than this. The Singer Palace is a short walk from major sites including the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia and the Colosseum. The new metro line, which will have a station in nearby Piazza Venezia, is set to open in 2025.
Where you’ll sleep
The 30 rooms are luxurious and bright and include 10 suites and 10 connecting solutions. I stayed in a Superior Suite with a separate living space and two bathrooms. The big windows overlook the quiet alleyway, and the room is full of dazzling art. There was always something delicious waiting with a kind note when I returned to my room.
Dining & drinks
Enjoying a spritz with a view of the Roman rooftops was a highlight of my stay. On their two terraces, you can enjoy a drink from Jim’s Bar, run by award-winning mixologist and bar manager Federica Geirola; the breakfast menu with sweet and savory options; or the classic Roman pastas from their restaurant, Le Terrazze.
Service notes
Run by a hotelier family, the Singer Palace offers full concierge services to ensure guests are enjoying their stay, whether that’s booking a customized tour, reserving the best restaurants in town, suggesting an art exhibition or finding a pool for the kids on those sweltering summer days.
Family perks
The Singer Palace prides themselves on accommodating families. Many connecting room options are available to make stays more comfortable, and the staff can offer help in finding activities that are suitable for kids, dealing with all the booking.
