My understanding is that you should avoid storing olive oil in containers made of iron or copper as those metals are reactive with the oil and can cause undesireable effects in aroma and taste.  I've had professionals caution me that the reaction caused by the copper can result in the creation of toxins and that copper is to be avoided at all costs.

I'm an American with status as a resident of Italy and I just completed a refinancing (suroga) transaction on my house in Italy.  Went from a 5.76 interest rate with Barclays to a 3.75 rate with Banca Popolare di Bari for the reaining 21 years of the original loan term - and that was not a simple thing as I'm 61 years old.  I used Ugo at Lifeinitaly.it.  I've used him to help secure mortgages on two houses over the past 10 years, and we just signed on the most recent refi on November 20.  So while I don't intend for this post to sound like a commercial endorsement, it's starting to feel like one.  I know that he has experience working with distressed properties and he may be able to provide some direction in your case.  Ugo is not your run of the mill loan broker.  He has an unusually deep understanding of the innerworkings of the legal and financial intricacies of the Italian way of doing business and has found creative ways to solve problems in each of my transactions. Thanks

After suffering through a second summer of seemingly perpetual brown/black outs, we asked Enel to upgrade our electrical service to 10KW.  When they finally came by to perform the upgrade, they determined that due to our distance from the “cabina” it would be impossible to upgrade our service without bringing in a new line from a closer source.  Long story short, we got our neighbors to agree to the new poles and wires and Enel has just finished installing the upgrade, which includes new 3 phase service being brought into our house.  We’ve received a bid for 3000 euro from our electrician to make the recommended changes to our internal electrical system, but think that may be high, so we’ve sought a second opinion.  My question for the Board is, can anyone tell me what is involved in retrofitting a newly built house (completed in 2009) to accommodate 3 phase power?  How much internal rewiring is needed to insure the safety of my family and the safe operation of the existing appliances – or is it a question of simply replacing/upgrading the panel and breakers?  We have the usual complement of appliances (dishwasher, oven, fridge, TV, washing machine and some AC/heater inverters).  I know this description doesn’t provide much detail, but I’m just trying to get a rough idea of how much pain I should expect to bear.  Thanks in advance.

I just came across this post and can confirm that in three transactions, Ugo was able to secure euro financing for me (American) in the purchase of properties in Italy (most recently in May, 2011).  He is extraordinarily thorough, creative and honest.  In all of my dealings with him he displayed uncommon tenacity and got great results.  I fully understand that lenders have made borrowing exceedingly difficult, but if anyone can make it happen, Ugo can.  He has earned my trust and confidence.  By the way, I have no affiliation with him and offer this assessment as a satisfied prior client of his - nothing more.
