Hi LindsayYou will need to take an old GAIA bill into your Italian Bank and they will do the rest. I'm not sure you can do it online as no links available. Maybe if your Bank has Online facilities you may be able to do it that way.

Thanks Grommit. I have an Italian speaking friend on the case. I already have a D.D. form but it has the wrong address on it, we moved house recently in UK. I think it would cause too much confusion to use that form. If no luck with current direction will do as you suggest.

Like you, we only manage to get to our house around 5/6 times a year and have had the water bills paid directly from our bank, for the last 6/7 years and never had a problem. So it is possible to do it, just need a friendly banker with perhaps a little English (on our part)

Following Gromit´s advice and your response, I think that, even if the address is wrong on the form, you should contact your bank and ask for direct debit and clarify with them the old address issue. They should be able to help.

I pay electricity by direct debit to Enel. I dont use any electricity as the apartment is not habitable yet. Does anyone know if you can set up the account with Enel so that you only pay the monthly standard charge when you are there and using power.

No; I don't think ENEL would allow that as it's you who are calling the tune. ENEL supply the electricity to your property 52 weeks a year wether or not you use it; that's up to you. It's like having a car a saying 'I only want to pay road tax for the days I use it on the road'..... some hope....
