If you drive a RHD car like us then it is a pain if you're on your own as you can't reach the cash bins. That's an advantage plus you get dedicated lanes so it can be quicker at busy toll boths. It's no cheaper though :-(

Good point Penny re RHD! How does it work out for average motorway use? Do you have to clock up a certain amount of usage to make it worthwhile? I'm assuming you have to pay to have the device? I'm assuming it's only valid for Italian tolls?

It's only Italian tolls and it costs around €1 every 2 months or something. There are no discounts on the tolls so you are paying for the convenience of it.

You are underestimating the

You are underestimating the wonderful feeling of driving past those waiting to pay. It makes me feel like Mr. Bean everytime. It's also very convenient to not go searching for the cash. There are plans well underway to have the European toll systems integrated and it should begin with the next couple years.
