Hi, I just joined this site and of course already have a question. I have just bought a small farmhouse in Alta Ossola and will be meeting some local artisans in a couple of weeks. One of them will be a plumber. Anh this is my question: how much is it legally ok to do yourself, when it comes to plumbing. Is it ok, for instance to attach/connect faucets, sink, toilet and bidet to the pipes and couplings that a plumber has installed?

You need a certficate of impianto - and its unlikely that the plumber will sign off on work he hasnt done.  If you dont have the certificate you cant sell the house.   But, there is nothing to stop you doing it yourself.

You could do everything yourself, but it would cause you problems when you later want to sell or rent out the property. The certificazione also protects you should there ever be any serious problems. Many have found them selves with problems because they don't use professionals or take professioanl advice.Italians included!

I understand what you are saying, but do you need a certificate for every little thing to be able to sell or rent? I guess you don't need a certificate to change the filter in the faucet, but is that the limit?

Well, strictly its the impianto that is certfied - if you change a toilet then you arent touching the impianto - so its a flexible interpretation!   i would quite happily do everything that isnt tubing/boilers/sewage without a 'professional'
