You exchange in the UK but in Italy we get ours filled by a local supplier. Currently we have an Italian bottle which holds 4kg and we are taking over a 7.5kg bottle which is a UK one. We are taking it empty and hope to get it filled when we get there at the same place we fill our Italian bottle.

Hi Lindsay Here in Italy you usually just tke your old bottle and exchange it for another, why do you want to refill an English bottle. The regulators are different size, the same for most countries...you cant fot a French one to an Italian bottle. What are you using it for.

The portable gas fire is a UK one. Thurcroft Verine - looks like a little woodburner but is portable, so we need an English bottle to fit inside. The Italian ones are too big. We are taking over a suitable bottle (calor) and a UK regulator but are not sure whether you can get UK bottles filled as the connection on top is not likely to be acceptable in Italy. My friend in France has the same problem but is able to get an adaptor for the connector - just wanted to know if this is possible in Italy.

Do you mean the blue ones?

Do you mean the blue ones? If so you cannot get them refilled, you need to buy a new one each time. Depending on where you live some garages used to refil them for a cheaper price, but I think they got 'rumbled'

We have not had any trouble getting our own Italian gas bottle re-filled locally - we just wanted to have a bigger one. The Italian bottles are too big to fit inside our Thurcroft Verine portable gas fire.

You need to find the nearest

You need to find the nearest gas bottle filling depot, they are fairly common. They have all the connections and adaptors for any type of bottle. Usually a bit cheaper too.

WHY ?

Why do you want to lug a UK gas bottle over 1000 miles??? You can get gas bottles full at every village store or Petrol station. They cost the same, as no deposit required, each time you get a full one, and most places will deliver for a minimal charge.....

We have not been able to get a 7.5 kg bottle anywhere in Italy which is why we are taking our own.
