Life in Turin compared to London?
Life in Turin compared to London?
Hi all, I am a 24 year old looking to spend a month in Torino next year in order to improve my Italian, expand my creative network (I am a freelance composer) and gain a new perspective. If I love it as much as I hope I do, then I'm considering moving for a longer period of time.
I was just wondering if anyone from the UK had rellocated to Turin (or Northern Italian cities) from London and could give me their opinion on the similarities and differences.
I think the main differences that I'm little worrying about are:
- Diversity
Italy is a lot less diverse than the UK and London in particular is a hub for immigrants from all over the world. I was just wondering if anymore (especially those who are brown themselves!) found living it Italy hostile. Everytime I have been, I've had a great time, but I feel living there is different from being a tourist...I've experienced discrimination in the UK but worry that if Italy has even less diversity, is the racism worse?
- Job opportunities for young people
There are a lot of young Italians in London who moved to the UK because we apparently have more jobs to offer in various sectors. I'm finding it hard enough to find certain jobs over here and was wondering if the situation is almost impossible in Italy hence the large amount of young people moving?
- Life as a creative freelancer
This is difficult anywhere, but as mentinoed above, lot of young Italian musicians, filmmakers etc. have moved to the UK because of lack of creative opportunties and a good creative scene in theatre, performance etc. Does anyone have opinions on this or have experienced life working in Italy as a creative?
Thanks in advance!
