In Trapani there will be some, but most people come to Sicily to escape. They want to integrate and not have a cricket club and bridge evenings!

Agree. However I lived n Italy for 7 years and although I loved my Italian friends, also having access to other expats made the experience richer. Never played Bridge and don't have any interest in Cricket. Have lived in various countries and always had international friends. Could care less if they are British. In fact would not want only British, they can tend to whingers too much. But my husband does not speak Italian. He plans to learn but it takes time.

Trapani, being a place well

Trapani, being a place well served by Ryanair does have a lot of holiday home owners. How many live here full time is difficult to say, seeing that the Italian system doesnt make it easy or cheap. You will find a pretty international crowd in Siracusa, and obviously in Taormina. It juest depends on how big a group of friends you want. Cianciana for instance - no good for you as too inland - seems to have a large expat population. Noto is a good bet - if you can find moorings, but Marsala I would think has very little going on, same with most of the south coast until you get to Scoglitti..

Thank you again for your information. We have found a lovely place in Avola, and will be berthing our sailboat in Marzamemi when we move over in September.

Thank you. Very useful information. About what I expected. I think if there are at least a few expats around that would work. I do really like Siracusa, but some parts are fairly rough looking. Don't know it well enough to know good areas to live. If you have any thoughts on that they would be appreciated. I have been to Noto once, lovely place. Not much on the rental listings though. Eddie said if he can get to a marina in 30 or so minutes that is ok. So Noto could work also. I do also like the towns on the south coast towns. Took your advice re Sciacca and may be some good places there. Siracusa probably has most things I would want, and close enough to Catania airport. Just a matter of finding sections we like. Love Ortiga but too difficult to park, walk around (have a bad knee/ankle) and generally no lift. Maybe worth looking at some of the towns close but outside the city? We were thinking we might want a house rather than a flat, but harder to find I think.

I'm an ex-pat living in Trapani. There are a few of us, but not many. My close friends here are all Sicilians, but sometimes it's nice to sit down with another native English speaker and have a good chat. If you do come Trapani, let me know. I'd be happy to show you around/ show you the ropes.

Hi Abigail! I found this thread in researching a potential move to Trapani. I'd love to chat. We're in Rovigo right now working on dual citizenship but I have family in Trapani / Erice it seems. I've never met them yet. We'd like to consider a move to Trapani and I was researching to see "living in Trapani" and this thread came up. We have a 9yo daughter and we're originally from USA

Hello Kristen,
Nice to meet you! My name is Mario, I'm Italian and I'm from Trapani, but I've been living the last 7 years of my life in the UK. I have a daughter of 8 and she speaks native English. We are moving back to Trapani next month. I know it's a hard time with the covid pandemic and everything, but if in the end you moved to Trapani, it would be nice to meet. We would like to give our daughter as many possibilities as possible to speak in English so that she won't lose it.

It could be anytime between October and December but we are planning a visit in September most likely. I want to look up family and explore the town. Do you have experience there? Good luck with the move. I'm excited that it looks like I could now know someone lol. Would you like to stay in touch via email off this thread?

Fun! I'll email you in a moment so be on the lookout. We only moved to the Veneto region in March and actually had to spend the three months of summer outside of Italy (Schengan Zone restrictions) so we're in Bulgaria at the moment. We head back to Rovigo August 26. From there we get my husband a permessso now that I have one and we wait for citizenship for me from which we can then apply for one for Greg. As for italian - no not really but actively trying to learn. We take classes in Rovigo and otherwise work on it ourselves with things like Duolingo, Pimsleur, and good ol' flashcards. :) See you via your inbox!Cheers,Kristen

Hello, so I know I'm like three years too late to this thread but are any of ye still in Marsala? I'm 26 and my partner is 33, I'm Irish and he's originally from Poland. We're moving to Marsala in two weeks (currently based in Castellamare del Golfo)
We would be very happy to meet up with any expats in the area once we've settled in as we are only just starting to learn Italian.
Cheers :)
