The first English-language edition of ‘On Heaven and Earth: Pope Francis on Faith, Family and the Church in the 21st Century’ by Pope Francis will be published on 7 May.
When Pope Francis was archbishop of Argentina, he and Rabbi Abraham Skorka, rector of the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary in Buenos Aires promoted inter-religious dialogues on faith and reason. They both sought to build bridges among Catholicism, Judaism and the world at large.
Written with Rabbi Skorka, ‘On Heaven and Earth’ records seminal discussions from numerous hours of conversation between the two religious leaders on topics such as God, atheism and globalisation. The conversations offer a perspective on the pope’s commitment to strengthening inter-religious relations through participation in a respectful dialogue on theological and worldly issues.
Image Books, the Catholic-interest imprint of Random House’s Crown Publishing Group, will release the book simultaneously in print, digital and audio formats in the USA and Canada. Maya Mavjee, president and publisher of Crown Publishing Group said: “We are honoured to publish Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s important book in English for the first time. [The book’s] context of inter-religious dialogue is one that will have great global appeal, speaking to Catholics and to readers across a wide range of faith and cultural backgrounds.”
The hardback version pf ‘On Heaven and Earth’ costs US$22.00 and the Kindle version US$15.86.
A Spanish-language edition titled ‘Sobre el Cielo y la Terra’ will also be issued in North America by Vintage Español in print and digital formats. A Spanish-language edition of the book with the same title was published in 2010 in Latin America and Spain.
