(ANSA) - Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was fined on the island of Capri for riding his
jet ski too close to shore and endangering bathers.
The incident took place on Thursday and 'Iron Mike' became one of the latest victims of Transport Minister Pietro Lunardi's crackdown on boating violations this summer, which last week claimed the lives of two swimmers who were hit by speedboats.
Tyson apologised for the violation and said he was not aware of the distance limit from the shore for motorised craft.
He was fined a total of 340 euros for riding his jet ski too close to shore and and during a time period where jet use is not allowed. Tyson arrived in Capri from Sardinia where he was accused by a model of physical abuse for her alleged refusal to have sex with him.
The incident reportedly took place on his yacht, 'Summer Wind'.
