Sophia Loren, who will be 76 on September 20th, appeared at the Miss Italy contest on Monday and caused a sensation by looking as glamorous as any of the young contestants.
Miss Loren, wearing a low-cut, long-sleeved silver gown and diamond choker, was a contestant herself back in 1950 and won the “Miss Elegant” title.
She once famously said that she owed everything to spaghetti but after the contest revealed that these days she only eats small portions of pasta.
She does not eat fat or sweet foods.
The secret of youth, she says, is to jump out of bed every morning and take a walk to start the day, believing you will find something beautiful. She says she has never hidden her age because she does not care.
On Monday evening Miss Loren chatted to the contestants, helped judge the contest and was on hand to congratulate the winner.
In May Sophia Loren was named tenth in the Wizard Jeans list of the world's sexiest women, with Penelope Cruz as number one.
