Six Italian restaurants made the 2022 World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, which was revealed on Monday at a ceremony in London hosted by actor Stanley Tucci, whose acclaimed CNN show “Searching for Italy” is now in its second season

Two of those six entered the top ten list of what are considered some of the most influential restaurants in the world: Lido 84 in Gardone Riviera, a small town on the Brescia shores of Lake Garda, ranked 8th; Le Calandre, which is run by the Alajmo family in Rubano (Veneto region) and already boasts three Michelin stars, ranked 10th.

“Set on the edge of beautiful Lake Garda in northern Italy, Lido 84 is a true destination restaurant, with stunning lakeside views to complement the food and hospitality of brothers Riccardo and Giancarlo Camanini,” the World’s 50 Best Restaurants writes on its website. “Lido 84’s dishes showcase the produce of Lake Garda and the region’s verdant pastures.”

As for Le Calandre, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants writes: “Cuisine here is celebrated across the ages and tantalises all the senses. Aroma, spice, texture and essential oils are masterfully employed to unlock a palette of primordial memories.” When the restaurant was awarded three-star Michelin status in 2003, Massimiliano Alajmo became the youngest chef in the world to have received this recognition.

The other Italian restaurants to be featured in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list are:

Uliassi (Senigallia, Marche) at number 12th;

Reale (Castel di Sangro) at number 15th;

Piazza Duomo (Alba, Piedmont) at number 19th;

St. Hubertus (San Cassiano, Alto Adige) at number 29th.

Only one Italian restaurant has ever won the list’s top prize, and that is Osteria Francescana in Modena, helmed by chef Massimo Bottura (twice, in 2016 and 2018).
